Students certified as core complete by a state of Texas public institution of higher education before enrolling at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â's are no longer required to take additional general education courses outside those embedded within the student’s chosen major.Ìý

What is core complete?

Ìýimplemented a 42-credit hour, general education core curriculum within the State of Texas for public college institutions. Every public institution in Texas has a core curriculum, which has a solid foundation of courses to allow for a moreÌýseamless transfer among institutions. Beginning in the Fall of 2020, ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â's University is one of the first private schools in Texas to implement a policy adopting the core complete status for transfer students.Ìý

How does the core complete status help me as a transfer student?

Having a core complete status will allow students to have seamless transferability of their general education coursework between institutions. If you're completing your core curriculum at your local community college in Texas, it's a great way to save time and money prior to your transfer to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â's.

Do I save money if I'm core complete?

There are many universities to choose from and researching which university is the best fit takes time. Aligning with the Texas core curriculum early allows for more flexibility with timing and transferring of courses. In mostÌýcases, a transfer student who is core complete may only have two years to invest once they transfer to their university, which ultimatelyÌýsaves you time and money.Ìý

How do I know if I'm core complete?

The Texas Core curriculum is a total of 42 credit hours. A designation of "core complete" status will be located on your official transcript from your local community college in Texas. Please consult with your community college advisorÌýfor more information about your status and ordering official transcripts.

How do I submit my documents indicating I'm core complete?

You can request your official transcript to be sent directly to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s. The official transcript should listÌýyour core completion designation status and must be received prior to enrollment at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s to receive core complete status

Does core complete apply to freshmen?

No. First-time freshmen are not eligible for core complete status at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â's. While they are eligible to bring in a high number of dual credit coursework and college-level examinations as transfer credit, they are required to complete some of their general education coursework at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â's.

International transfer students who apply from universities outside the United States are required to submit their university transcripts for aÌý course-by-courseÌýForeign Credential Evaluation. From the moment you enroll at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s, and throughout your first semester, a transfer success coach will assist you as you adjust to life on the hilltop. You will meet with your success coach before and at Orientation, and as often as you need to during the semester. Your success coachÌýwill make sure you are aware of — and know how to access — the personalized support services we offer transfer students. Here is an overview of what you can expect:

Advising and Registration Assistance

• During your initial advising and registration meeting:
  • A warm welcome to campus!
  • DiscussÌýintentions for your major and career path, as well as your aspirations on and beyond the hilltop (internships, graduate school, on campus involvement, etc.)
  • Discuss the details of transferring your credits to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â's, how they will be applied to your chosen major's degree plan, and review all of your incoming coursework to ensure we are maximizing the amount of degree applicable credits.Ìý
  • Be advised and register, with your success coach, for courses in upcoming term
  • Begin taking advantage of two campus partners by meeting with them after your initial advising and registration appointment:ÌýCareer and Professional Development (to talk about your academic plan and life aspirations) and Student Financial Services (to review your financial aid package and college expenses).Ìý

Academic Support

• During your time here on the hilltop, your success coachÌýwill be your go-to person, along with a dedicated faculty advisor.
• Looking for extra help with a tough course? Your success coach can connect you to ourÌýacademic support services,Ìýsuch as peer tutoring, supplemental instruction, or the Math Lab and the Writing Center.
• One of the best ways to stay on top of your class assignments (and avoid coursework stress) is to practice good study habits. Your success coachÌýcan show you how to sharpen your study and time management skills.

Getting Involved on Campus

From leadership activities to community service to club sports, whatever your interests, you can explore them at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s. Your success coach can assist youÌýto get in touch with students and staff in offices across campus, such as Student Activities, Diversity and Inclusion, Campus Ministry, and Recreation and Wellness, who will welcome your involvement.

What GPA do I need to transfer?

Transfer admission requires a minimum GPA of 2.5. The applicant’s essay and most recent coursework weigh heavily on transfer admission decisions.

How many of my credits will transfer to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s University?

ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s accepts up to 66 hours of junior college or community college credit and up to 90 hours of university credit (including dual credit courses completed in high school). All coursework must be completed with a grade of C- or better to transfer. The last 30 hours and at least half of your major coursework must be taken at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s.

Complete theÌýÌýand send us your transcripts so we can evaluate what credits will transfer to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s. You can drop them off at our office or email, fax or mail them to us. The evaluation will be emailed back to you.

Will ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s need my high school transcript and test scores?

Applicants with fewer than 30 earned hours of college credit must submit an official high school transcript. ACT and SAT scores are optional, and you can read more about our test-optional policyÌýhere. If you have completed college-level English Composition I and II with a grade of C or higher, you do not need to send SAT or ACT scores. For more help,Ìý.

When should I begin my transfer plan to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s?

The sooner, the better. We want to build a relationship with you as early as possible in your academic career so we can help you select transferable courses. Get started byÌýÌýand meeting with our transfer admission counselor.

When should I apply for admission to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s?

Transfer admission decisions can be made up to one year before you plan to transfer. It’s best to apply at the beginning of the last semester you plan to attend another college. This allows ample time for us to review your application. It also gives you enough time to apply for financial aid.

How can I prepare financially for my transfer to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s?

We’ll partner with you and your family to make a ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s education affordable. You can help by filling out theÌý, and having the results sent to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s. Be sure to include our federal school code, 003621. Plan to apply for admission to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s by our priority application deadline to increase your chance of receiving financial aid. You can also get an estimate of your scholarships and grants and the cost of your ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s education by using ourÌý.

Does ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â’s offer scholarships for transfer students?

Traditional transfer students are automatically reviewed for scholarships during the application process. Students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, successful full-time enrollment and 30 hours of college credit at the time of application qualify for consideration. Members of Phi Theta Kappa who meet the above criteria may be eligible for an additional award.
